Keeping the Light Out with Shutter Shades

Sunglasses aren’t just for outdoor activities anymore. Back in the day when sunglasses were worn to the beach or for a stroll in the park, no one would have thought that they would be a thing for parties. After Kanye West wore them on his music video, shutter shades have made a huge comeback.

So what exactly are shutter shades? Alain Mikli, the genius behind shutter shades, designed them in such a way that instead of having lenses, they have a shutter motif as part of the frame. These shutter shades are suitable for both men and women, and in an assortment of styles and colors. Shutter shades may not actually function as sunglasses; this depends on the design. Some models may contain UV-resistant lenses, but usually, these shutter shades feature only a series of horizontal plastic shades, which is counterproductive to the purpose of sunglasses. They don’t provide protection from UV light, and are unable to prevent light from entering the eye.
Unknown to many, shutter shades were first available in the 1920’s and were first called Venetian Blinders. However, shutter shades were only featured on the television during the 1980’s, for music videos of the bands Simple Minds and Animotion. Alain Mikli based the design of his shutter shades on earlier models, and this was the pair used in Kanye West’s video. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most popular sunglasses.

Wayfarers, of course, never left the list of popular sunglasses. Although first popularized in the 1980’s by Tom Cruise in the movie Risky Business, they have made a significant comeback over the past years. Their popularity sky rocketed when Ray Ban signed a product placement deal, causing these popular sunglasses to be featured in many movies during the 80’s. After celebrities started wearing them, they became even more famous. Since they never really went out of style, it’s never too late for you to get a pair of these popular sunglasses. Because of its popularity, the new collection features a variety of colors to choose from, although the classic black sunglasses are still preferred by many.
Of course sunglasses made by designers never fail to make the list of popular sunglasses. These sunglasses come with style, look and comfort; often, a heavy price tag comes along with these popular sunglasses as well. Gucci is probably one of the more popular sunglasses; it has gone far from its humble beginnings in Italy to different places all over the world. Many celebrities also patronize Gucci, not only for sunglasses, but as well as their bags, clothes, etc. Of course, if you want to be statistical about it, the more popular sunglasses are the ones that sell more. But before buying, make sure it fits your style. Don’t get a pair just because everyone has them – make sure you actually want it.
